Steps to begin your FYP / Senior Project for EE students

FYP is a very challenging task given to engineering students. It requires students to think out of the box and somehow come out with a "mind blowing" idea. The subject requires students to both manage their time well and also excel technically to complete the project.

It all starts with an idea, which then turns into a proposal. There is a chance your supervisor might reject your proposal. If you believe and you are confident with your own idea, don't give up debating with your supervisor. *It's worth it. My supervisor didn't agree with my proposal at first. He only understood how my system works a few weeks before the submission of my thesis. The project bagged me an "A" and also one FYP award.

As things progresses, you'll need to decide what materials you need for the project. For electronics projects, there are countless micro-controllers and peripherals that could be used. The choice of micro-controllers are very vital as different micro-controllers excel in different functions.

This brings us to the programming part. While choosing the micro-controller, make sure you're familiar with the programming language that the micro-controller works best with. Some uses C#, Python and even C++. Before fully settling down on an idea for FYP, make sure you can visualize the end product and it could add value to your FYP and in turn give you good grades.
